Privacy Policy and Data Retention and Usage
Your privacy is important to IREX. Please read the following privacy policy statement carefully to understand how we collect and use your information.
Within this statement, “participants” refers to program applicants, current and past scholars, and TJSP alumni. “Non-participants” may include host institutions, application readers, and other individuals.
Participant Information Content and Storage
Information about participants consists of data contained in their applications, information gathered about their interaction with this website, information derived from interviews, and information gathered during the course of their program and as alumni. IREX retains only the data that is necessary to effectively conduct TJSP program activities, fulfill its mission, and comply with applicable laws and regulations. Some data, such as contact information and professional experience, is continually updated. Reasons for data retention include:
- Providing an ongoing service to the data subject
- Compliance with applicable laws and regulations associated with financial and programmatic reporting by IREX to its funding agencies and other donors
- Compliance with applicable labor, tax and immigration laws
- Other regulatory requirements
- Security incident or other investigation
- Litigation
Data usage:
Information, as described above, may be:
- Used by selection committees and interviewers to review applications;
- Supplied to the program's funding organization;
- Submitted to potential host universities for TJSP scholars
- Used for the evaluation of an individual's participation in TJSP and in the collection of data for general program evaluation by IREX and the program’s funding organization;
- Used to notify scholars and/or alumni of upcoming events and programs;
- Provided to scholars, alumni of this and other U.S. Government-sponsored programs, and/or other members of the TJSP network for the purpose of fostering networking; and
- Used as part of aggregate analysis of website traffic to discover ways to improve our online application process.
If applicants, scholars, or alumni do not want to be included in point 6, it is their responsibility to notify IREX at thomasjeffersonscholars@irex.org. An opportunity to do so will be included in the TJSP Terms and Conditions document that scholars submit when accepting their TJSP program.
IREX does not sell applicant or current/past scholar information. The principles stated herein are binding only to IREX; other organizations involved in the administration of these programs may adhere to other privacy or similar policies.
Non-Participant Information Content and Storage
Information about non-participants consists of data contained in applications, data gathered through communication with non-participants, information gathered about their interaction with this website. IREX retains only the data that is necessary to effectively conduct TJSP program activities, fulfill its mission, and comply with applicable laws and regulations.
Use of Information
Information, as described above, may be:
- Used by IREX to facilitate the non-participant’s participation and/or interaction with TJSP;
- Used to ensure that all aspects of programming meet the funder’s standards, as well as inform best practices for creating and distributing resources;
- Supplied to the program's funding organizations;
- Used for the evaluation of a non-participant’s participation and/or interaction with TJSP and for the collection of data for general program evaluation by IREX and the program’s funding organization;
- Used to ensure that host institutions are relevant for scholars’ fields of study;
- Used to share general TJSP communications and updates; and
- Used as part of aggregate analysis of website traffic.
